eXtensinet.com Global Resource Network Launch Exceeds Expectations

Vancouver, Canada, April 26, 2001

The recent launch of the eXtensinet.com Global Resource Network exceeded expectations after receiving an instant international membership base within just its first week. "We are a bit overwhelmed but also very pleased." said Thomas Erl, CEO and Principal Architect of 1+1 Communications Inc., creators of eXtensinet. "We weren't quite prepared for so much activity so soon, but it's a sign that we are going in the right direction."

The concept behind eXtensinet is to provide a fully customizable central access point into the growing XML and WAP communities. The site has been referred to as a "mega-portal" as it boasts the world's largest XML and WAP resource page, but as Thomas Erl stated, that was not its original purpose:

"Our goal wasn't to create just another portal site, but to provide a functional desktop tool for professionals involved with XML or WAP technologies. We dedicated a significant part of our research effort towards user interface development, and we think we've come up with an easy-to-use, intelligent design with the key ability to allow for the customization of the site's layout and content. This customization empowers users to work with resources that are only relevant to them. We want to provide a tool so useful that our users will want to work with it every day."

"Having said that, we also take our role as the leading XML and WAP portal very seriously. We realize that our product is only as good as the resources it delivers, and it remains our primary goal to ensure that every relevant resource in the XML and WAP communities becomes available through eXtensinet. We don't want our users to have to go anywhere else."

The eXtensinet.com Global Resource Network provides three separate panes (or channels) of resources, covering not just XML and WAP, but also XSLT, XLink, XPath, XQuery, SOAP, SAX, RDF and Schemas. Users can set preferences that filter the site's content, which allows eXtensinet to be different things to different people.

A number of additional enhancements are planned for eXtensinet, however the immediate focus is to expand its global membership base as much as possible. "After just a few days, eXtensinet is already being used around the world," said Thomas. "Besides the US, Canada and the UK, our membership has already extended to Israel, Bulgaria, Australia, Germany, the Netherlands, France, India and Japan. We are very excited at the prospect of creating a truly global resource network for XML and WAP professionals."
